Student Conduct

Promoting Integrity and Respect in Our Community

At KAUST, every member of the community shares responsibility for maintaining an environment that supports learning, research, and mutual respect. The Student Conduct process upholds these values by addressing behaviors that conflict with University expectations. Our goal is to promote accountability, fairness, and personal growth while ensuring a safe and inclusive campus community.

Fairness

We review every concern with consistency and objectivity. The process ensures that decisions are based on accurate information and that all individuals are treated equitably.

Respect

All participants are treated with dignity throughout the process. We listen carefully, honor each perspective, and support a community built on mutual understanding.

Growth

The conduct process encourages reflection and personal responsibility. Our goal is to help students strengthen their judgment and contribute positively to the community.

When to Contact Student Conduct

Student Conduct is here to help when you have questions about student behavior, feel uncertain about how to address a concern, or want clarity about the conduct process. We provide guidance, support, and information to help you decide the best next step.

Contact Student Conduct if:

  • You witness or experience behavior that may violate the Student Code of Conduct
  • You are unsure which office should receive a concern
  • You have been notified of a conduct case and want help understanding the process

Confidentiality

Before a Complaint Is Filed: Initial Consult

You may speak with Student Conduct informally if you have a concern, want to understand your options, or are not sure whether something should be reported. These conversations are private and handled with discretion. At this stage, we do not notify the other person involved, and you remain in control of whether you want to move forward with a formal complaint.

We may need to act if there is an immediate safety concern or there is substantial risk to the University, but otherwise, initial consults are a confidential space to ask questions and receive guidance.

After a Complaint Is Formally Submitted
Once a complaint is filed and the conduct process begins, confidentiality is maintained, but it works differently. To ensure a fair process, the respondent is usually informed of the concern and given the opportunity to respond. This may include sharing the complainant’s identity and relevant information. Everyone involved is expected to keep information private and use it only for seeking support or advice.

Non-Retaliation

Students have the right to raise concerns or participate in the conduct process without fear of retaliation. Any attempt to intimidate, pressure, threaten, or negatively affect someone for reporting a concern, cooperating in a review, or supporting another student is not permitted. Retaliation is considered a separate violation of the Student Code of Conduct and may result in additional disciplinary action.

We Are Here to Support You

Being involved in the conduct process — in any role — can bring up uncertainty, worry, or practical questions. Support is an important part of helping you understand the process, make informed decisions, and stay connected to campus resources. KAUST provides confidential and caring support services to help you manage challenges along the way.
