Overview of the Resolution Process
The resolution process is the stage where concerns about student behavior are reviewed and addressed. The goal is to understand what happened, determine whether a policy was likely violated, and identify a fair and appropriate way to move forward. Every case is handled with care, respect, and attention to the information available.
The process emphasizes education, accountability, and the well-being of the community. Students are encouraged to share their perspective and to ask questions at any point. A Conduct Officer will guide the process, explain each step, and ensure that students understand what to expect.
Students have specific rights throughout the conduct process. These rights ensure that every student is treated with fairness and respect. A Conduct Officer will review these rights with the student and answer any questions.

Possible Sanctions and Moving Forward
When a conduct concern is reviewed, several different outcomes are possible. If a student is found responsible for a policy violation, sanctions may be assigned. Sanctions are determined based on the information available, the nature and severity of the situation, and what will best support learning, accountability, and community well-being.
KAUST’s conduct process is grounded in an educational approach. When sanctions are used, they are intended to promote reflection, personal growth, and responsible decision-making whenever appropriate.
Once a case is resolved, students receive written notification outlining the decision and any next steps. If sanctions are assigned, this communication will include what is required and the timeline for completion. Students are encouraged to reflect on the experience and to make use of available resources as they move forward in their academic and personal development.
Available Support
Being involved in a conduct process can feel stressful or unfamiliar. Support is available to help students understand the process, manage concerns, and navigate next steps.
Seeking support does not affect the outcome of a case. Support services exist to ensure students feel informed, supported, and able to participate fully in the process.
