Resident Assistants (RAs) at KAUST
A Resident Assistant is a trained student leader who supports the wellbeing, engagement, and success of residents in their assigned neighborhood. RAs build community, organize events, provide peer support, and help maintain a positive living environment.
You can locate your assigned RA by visiting the Find my RA page, where RAs are listed by building and neighborhood. You may also see your RA’s name posted on your building’s bulletin board or receive a welcome message at the start of the semester.
RAs are approachable and available through multiple channels. You can reach out via email, speak to them during their open-door hours, or approach them during community events. For urgent concerns related to safety or emergencies, contact Security directly.
You can talk to your RA about:
- Roommate concerns or communication challenges
- Navigating life in the KAUST community
- Getting involved in events and programs
- Questions about residential expectations or resources
- Personal challenges or general support
- If the issue requires specialized help, your RA will guide you to the right campus office.
RAs are peer leaders—not security officers, cleaners, or professional counselors. They cannot enforce discipline, access confidential student records, or intervene in emergencies that require Security or medical services. Their role is to support, guide, and refer when needed.
RAs maintain weekly engagement with residents, hold monthly open-door hours, and send biweekly newsletters with updates and event information. While they may not be available 24/7, they communicate their availability clearly and respond as promptly as possible.
Start with a direct, respectful conversation. Many issues resolve quickly this way. If challenges persist, your RA can help mediate a productive discussion and provide strategies for communication, boundaries, and shared living expectations.
RAs can support you through the process by listening, advising, and documenting concerns. However, room changes are coordinated through Residential Life and are typically considered after attempts at resolution have been made.
RAs host monthly events designed to promote community, friendship, cultural exchange, and student wellbeing. These may include social gatherings, educational workshops, game nights, outdoor activities, and other creative programs.
RAs share biweekly newsletters, update building bulletin boards, and post announcements on Campus Connect. They may also communicate directly via email or during outreach activities such as High Tea or community meetups.
Yes! Students are encouraged to help with events or community initiatives. If you are interested in volunteering, speak with your RA and they will guide you and ensure you are connected to approved activities.
For any urgent safety or medical concern, contact Security immediately. After the situation is stabilized, you may inform your RA if you feel comfortable, but RAs are not first responders.
