The Beacon Lounge

Introduction

The Residential Life team positively shapes the student living experience on campus by fostering a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive community that cultivates personal development, emphasizes cross-cultural interactions, encourages leadership development, enhances the educational experience, and provides a sense of belonging to each student.

As part of this building of the student community, The Beacon Lounge, situated in the Harbor Walk area, is being instigated by the Office of Residential Life to serve the needs of graduate students on-campus. In addition the Beacon Lounge will serve as a communal and social space for the entire graduate student community.

The Beacon Lounge offers a prime space for graduate students to connect with peers, whilst enjoying views of the stunning Red Sea. It consists of a communal lounge space, equivalent to a small hall, that can accommodate up to 100 people; a kitchenette for social cooking activities, and a small semi-private community meeting space.

Operating Objective

The key objective of the Beacon Lounge will be to provide a community-building space for graduate students. The Resident Assistant team, who are sponsored by the Residential Life Office, will utilize the space regularly for these community-building events and will be the prime source of programming of the space. At the same time the space will be used for other student groups with similar objectives, such as graduate student-led groups and associations and the Graduate Student Council.

Residents may also use the area to celebrate birthdays, gatherings of friends, play board games, small group cooking sessions, meetings, studying, and in general conduct other activities that will not disturb other people.

About the Lounge

It features a communal lounge that accommodates up to 100 people, a kitchenette for shared cooking, and a semi-private meeting area.
